"Studio" Familiar Subject

 It's good to become familiar with your subject if time allows. I see this scene every day.

It is the backyard of ACME Art Studios where I have my studio as well as 19 other artists.

The subject here is the studio of  painter Trey Moore. I have painted this scene before in ink and watercolor. I simply enjoy the angles and the turquoise doors are too tempting.

I prefer to work on stained canvas or board in either ochre or gray. After sketching out the subject I then block out large shapes. After that it's all detail and going back and forth with darks and lights.

I have a palette that comes with my French Easel but I prefer to work on the disposable white palette

where my colors don't get lost as much and the larger size suits me better. I have a bag which carries my brushes, rags, a hoody if it gets cold and little odds and ends like pliers, tape, thinner  etc., 

It was a beautiful morning to get out and paint.

Studio Time

 It has been months since I have posted anything, the main reason being is I have been busy in the studio and then it just became too hot and muggy to enjoy getting out there. Instead I set up my French easel and started a series of paintings based on old family photos. These are all fairly small, most being 8x10 and all are on either gessoed plywood or canvas board.

Back Yard

 I have not had a chance to paint outdoors for quite awhile. Most of my work has been in the studio but I finally had a chance to get outside a couple weeks ago and try out my new half box French Easel. This was done fairly quickly, one and half hours and is an 8x10 oil on board.
