Trailer / Editing

Image
It was a beautiful warm day today with the sun going in and out. I was ready to paint something, anything today to just get outside. This is a view from the yard at the studio looking out to 4th Street and the Brooklyn Arts District. A little ways into it I realized that I did not measure and count the windows exactly but knew I did not want the large building to run off the right side of the canvas or the composition would look wonky.  I do like to be exact as possible with some details but if it makes the entire painting suffer for it well then it makes no sense, it's the overall feel I try to achieve. It was fun. I don't know how much I like the canvas board though. I did put a light coat of gesso on it but I think in the future I will go with a different brand. "Trailer" oil on canvas board 8x10

The Race Out Back

Like much of my subject matter this was painted from my backyard with the subject being my neighbors upstairs back apartment. I have drawn this before but never painted it. The sky took on more blue as time went by but I was intent on sticking with the paler version I initially saw. Suddenly things changed pretty quick and I decided to count my losses and raced to wrap it up as quickly as possible.  "Out Back" oil on gessoed board 8 x 10

Across the Street

Another neighborhood painting. The way this started I thought this was destined to be a wipe out, but I refocused and did a little editing to try and get it to breathe a bit. The sun changed a bit but not too drastically where it made my head spin but it still threw me a curve or two. "Across the Street" oil on gessoed board 8x10
